With the introduction of the ME flags, circulation procedures have needed some updating. Please share your library's ME procedures, so that we can benefit from seeing how other libraries across the province are handling the process.
Edmonton Public Library's Process
For more information, contact: Marquita Bevans, Associate Manager, Circulation and NOT Inter-library Loans.
We will be using the ME flag that has been developed in concert with the TAL flag.
If someone uses a TAL card at the desk to borrow, insert the TAL flag in the item
If someone uses a ME Libraries card at the desk to borrow, insert the ME flag in the item.
Given that borrowing often is not through the service desk, the flag may have to be added to the item when it is being returned.
Complete the “Date Returned” and “At” sections of the flag to indicate the return date for backdating purposes and the library handling the return (in our case, EPL). Make sure you let the customer know that there may be delays in the item arriving at the owning library.
If the item is returned without a flag, please follow this procedure:
If the item is from a public library, insert the ME flag in the item and complete the sections
If the item is from an academic library, insert the TAL flag in the item and complete the sections
